Pennsylvania Racing Commission

Description

Horse and harness racing are a valuable part of the agriculture industry in this state, and an essential piece of the social and cultural fabric of Pennsylvania.  Keeping Pennsylvania Growing means managing the growth and promotion of this vital segment of the agricultural economy.

The Pennsylvania State Horse and State Harness Racing Commissions represent the state’s racing industry, collectively known as PA Racing.  Racing is managed under a common mission: to direct, regulate, secure and promote the horse racing and breeding industry in the commonwealth.

PA Racing boasts one of the best racing programs in the country.  The commonwealth is home to six state-of-the-art racing and gaming complexes and hosts harness racing at 15 agricultural county fairs.  The growth of Pennsylvania’s racing industry following the passage of the 2004 Race Horse Development and Gaming Act that allowed for expanded gaming, has not only created greater opportunities for horse owners and breeders, but has enhanced the state’s agricultural economy as a whole.

Additional information about PA Racing can be found at TrackPackPA.com -- a promotional website that both educates and entertains users by introducing them to the sport of horse racing.  The site highlights the beautiful assets that are Pennsylvania's six modern racetracks in addition to a track locator tool, profiles of jockeys and drivers, a calendar of events, PA Racing videos, a horse blog, and much more.

The Commission and the Department of Agriculture are committed to reinvesting in PA Racing and will continue to develop Pennsylvania’s reputation as a superior place to breed, train, race and enjoy horses.
